Michael Deitch was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1955 and grew up in Houston, Texas. Mike attended the University of Texas where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics with high honors (magna cum laude) in 1975. He was also admitted to Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi. Mike graduated from the University of Texas School of Law in May 1979. He was licensed in November 1979 and immediately began a business litigation practice. During the local business downturn of the 1980s, Mike expanded his practice into bankruptcy, representing business debtors and creditors. He obtained Board Certifications from the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in Civil Trial Law and Business Bankruptcy in 1989 and retained those designations until 2003 when he further expanded his practice into business and real estate transactions.
Mike has tried over forty jury cases and continues to litigate in state, federal, and bankruptcy courts when no other solution will solve his clients’ problems. Mike calls on more than 45 years of legal experience to counsel and advise his clients, often successfully avoiding the courthouse when dealing with reasonable adversaries.
Mike has spoken at seminars on collections, bankruptcy, and commercial landlord/tenant law. He is a member of the Austin Bar Association and a Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation. He is admitted to practice in the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, the United States District Courts for the Western and Northern Districts of Texas, and the United States Bankruptcy Courts for the Western and Northern Districts of Texas. Mike was president of the Jewish Community Association of Austin (Federation) in 2001 and 2002 and does volunteer work for his local Temple.
